PHIL 365 Trans Rights, Law, and the Public Sphere
Philosophical study of law, jurisprudence, rights, public policy, media coverage, and trials related to gender variance and trans experience. Study of historical and global criminalization of gender variance and contemporary decriminalization. Investigation into contestations around trans rights, including bathrooms, workplaces, sex classification, immigration, sports, and medical access. Philosophical analysis of how race and gender influence courtrooms and trials. Study of media and state reaction to trans lives, including critical responses and backlash.
