HIST 365 American Technological Development

The growth of American technology is examined from the Colonial era through the twentieth century. Topics include the proliferation of arms in the 17th century New England; the factory as system and community; interchangeable parts and the role of the military in technological development; the origins of "Fordist" mass production and the assembly line; issues of safety and government regulation of technology; and the business of early 20th century hydraulic design.
