ENG 276 The Literature of the Sea

This course focuses on literary works (fiction, poetry, journalism, etc.) that take the marine environment as a focus, written on a range of land masses from 1800 to the present. Examples include Moby-Dick and Rachel Carson's Under the Sea-Wind. Major themes include cultural contact, science, and literature, the environment as concept, and the social worlds of seagoing. Any introductory English Department course (101-199) or AP credit or permission of instructor
