A&S 239 Social and Cultural Change

This course will focus on theories of change as they illuminate prevalent forms of change in the face of the social and cultural forces of fixity and persistence. We will read and discuss case studies of historical social and cultural structures that have changed over time due to innovations in science and technology, radical rethinking in terms of religion and politics, and natural or man-made disasters that challenged established ways of behaving.
