MATH 141 Elements of Differential Calculus

An introduction to differential calculus in one and several variables, emphasizing applications to economics and the sciences. Topic include: review of exponential, logarithmic and trigonometric functions; contours for functions of two variables; notion of limit and instantaneous rate of change; ordinary and partial derivatives; techniques of differentiation; linear approximation and slopes of contours; optimization in one and two variables, including constrained optimization via Lagrange multipliers. Not open to students enrolled in, or who have credit for, MATH 161 or MATH 165
