MUS 208 Audiodrama

We will use audio production tools to amplify the transformation of text into performance and performance into text. With close attention to audio plays, radio dramas, podcasts, and a range of other mainstream media forms, we will analyze speech-based recorded audio as musical sound with texture, timbre, contour, depth, and musical story. We will approach musicalized speech-performance as a tool for powerful (and, potentially, deeply manipulative) social intervention by analyzing historical and contemporary radio performance and by producing original works combining creative analysis and critical audio.
