WGS 245 Queer Film Histories
This class will introduce students to histories of queer cinema from around the world and across a range of cinematic modes and practices: narrative, documentary, avant-garde, and activist video. Drawing upon key readings in queer and feminist cinema studies, we will examine how moving images represent and construct lgbtiqa+ identities, intervene in aesthetic practices and political movements, and deploy distinct cultural strategies and modes of address. Assignments will include informal and formal writing assignments and a final creative project. [H, GM1, GM2]
