French
Spoken by 396 million people on all continents, French is currently the 4th most widely spoken language in the world, and the official language of 32 States and governments.
As one of the working languages of the United Nations, the European Union, UNESCO, NATO, the Red Cross, and the International Olympic Committee, as well as tourism, cooking, fashion, theater, the visual arts, dance, architecture, and the sciences, French is a major player in global communication and an important asset in the global job market.
At Lafayette College, the French program honors the legacy of its namesake by offering a broad range of courses in French and Francophone studies, and affiliations with other Departments and Programs, including Africana Studies, International Affairs, Government and Law, Medieval, Renaissance, and Early Modern studies, Film and Media Studies, Latin American and Caribbean Studies, and Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies. Students are active participants in the trans-curricular initiatives like the LIME and the Francophone CyberPAL programs.
