ENG 336 Studies in Seventeenth-Century Literature
The seventeenth century saw unprecedented growth and change in England: the decline of absolute government and the rise of liberalism and capitalism, the scientific revolution, colonial expansion, and the rise of modern consciousness and subjectivity. This course explores the ways in which the literature of the period reflects English culture in transition and the ways in which formal literary genres change as the century unfolds. Topics vary.
