HIST 122 Race and Material Culture in Early Modern Europe

This course explores the development of race and racism in Europe, c. 1450-1800, by following things as they moved around the world. In this period of increased global contacts, explorers, merchants, consumers, and slaved used material objects to create or challenge racial inequalities. Students will conduct their own research on the relationship between race and two early modern objects or images and will contribute their findings to an online exhibit.
