ART 217 Art and Architecture of the Medieval World
This course explores the artistic and architectural developments of the Middle Ages across the Mediterranean, Europe, and the Middle East. We will examine how art functioned as a tool for political power, spiritual devotion, and cultural identity. Key themes include the transformation of the Classical tradition, the rise of Christian and Islamic visual cultures, the cult of relics, and the engineering marvels of the Gothic era.
