BIOL 355 Molecular Basis of Genetic Disorders

This course will explore genetic disorders through the lens of the central dogma of molecular biology. We will focus on monogenic disorders and examine disease-causing mutations at the DNA, RNA, protein, cell, tissue, and organismal level. Students will read, discuss, and present primary literature. In addition, each student will investigate a genetic disorder and compose a research paper. This course is intended for upper-division students with a working knowledge of genetics and heredity.

Prerequisite

BIOL 112 and one of BIOL 212, BIOL 225, BIOL 255, or BIOL 277
