HIST 220 Money and Power in the Ancient Mediterranean World

This course is an introduction to numismatics (the study of coins) and is an investigation of coinage in the ancient Greek and Roman worlds. Students will learn how to analyze coins and how to employ coins critically as sources for questions of social, economic, and political historical inquiry. Students will develop technical numismatic skills through hands-on research using the Roman Coin Collection in Skillman’s Special Collections.
