ME 338 Soft Tissue Mechanics

This course explores models to mechanically describe the materials that make up living things, combining concepts from biology, anatomy, and mechanics. The course addresses the hierarchical and nonlinear nature of soft tissues and will explore their additional complexity such as viscoelasticity, anisotropy, and spatial heterogeneity. The course will examine how these complex mechanical properties arise from the tissue’s structure in order to predict how tissues will mechanically respond in real-world scenarios.
