GOVT 228 Global Democracy

This course examines contemporary democracies with an emphasis on the Global South, primarily Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa, and South Asia. It explores the variety of democratic experiences across these regions, highlighting both notable achievements and persistent challenges. This course will cover a broad range of topics, including institutions, representation, political participation, identity politics, corruption, polarization, economic inequality and development, and democratic backsliding.
